Instrument Rental Program

Baroque Violin Shop has the best, and one of the biggest rental programs in the country dedicated to string instruments. Although we're based in Cincinnati, we serve rental customers in all 50 states. We rent only high-quality, professionally set-up instruments that deliver exceptional value and playability.

Our rental program is rent-to-rent, meaning that you are not making payments to pay down the cost of the instrument. What we do offer is rental credit which, is the sum of all pre-tax rental payments and can be used towards the purchase of a new instrument. The rental credit can be used towards up to 50% of the cost of a new instrument. Typically after about 3 years of renting, you will have accumulated enough rental credit to start considering a purchase.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have related to the rental program or our instruments. We know many renters get started with limited knowledge of string instruments and we want to be a helpful resource for you.

RENTAL KIT

Each rental kit comes with an instrument, bow and case, plus a FREE starter package valued at over $50. This package includes: music stand, rosin, polish cloth, method book, music folder, shoulder rest for violin and viola, and end-pin stoppers for cello and bass. Renters get everything they need from us to start their learning and playing.

RENTAL RATES

Pay for a full year rental and get 2 Months Free!*

  • Violin/Viola - $16/month or $160/year^

  • Cello - $35/month or $350/year^

  • Bass - $45/month of $450/year^

^Sales tax not included. Monthly rentals require 2 month non-refundable payment at time of rental and are automatically billed once the monthly payments start.

RENTAL INSTRUMENTS

For violins and violas we rent our Performance 300 series, which retail for $950 and $1350 respectively. For cellos and basses we rent our Academy 200 series, which retail for $1600 and $2800. By renting instruments of this caliber, we give students the opportunity to learn on high-quality, professionally set-up instruments at a fraction of the cost of purchasing.

FREE MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT COVERAGE

Also included for no extra charge is maintenance and replacement coverage. You are not responsible for any accidental damage that may happen to the instrument, bow or case. Broken strings are replaced at no additional cost. If repair is needed or an instrument is lost or stolen, Baroque Violin Shop will fix or replace it at no additional cost (Police report is required in the event of theft). When your rental requires servicing simply come into our shop during business hours or call us to arrange the quickest and most efficient means of repair or replacement. EARN RENTAL CREDIT TOWARDS PURCHASE

Our rental program is a rent-to-rent program with an earned rental credit, NOT a rent-to-own program. We will apply 100% of your rental payments towards, up-to, 50% of the purchase price of any new full size violin, viola, cello, or bass sold from our shop (excludes any vintage instruments). There is no limit to the amount you may accumulate and you start building equity from your first payment. All subsequent payments a customer makes towards rental fees accumulate as rental equity, with no limit to how long you can rent.

Example 1: You have paid $350.00 towards violin rental fees, and you decide to purchase our Performance 300 Violin retailing for $950.00, your rental equity amount of $350 will be deducted from the purchase price, leaving a balance of $600 plus tax.

Example 2: You have paid $500.00 towards violin rental fees and you decide to purchase the Performance 300 Violin for $950.00. Your accumulated rental equity of $500 is over the 50% threshold of rental credit that can be used towards an instrument purchase. $475 will be deducted from the purchase price, leaving a balance of $475 plus tax.

FLEXIBLE PAYMENT OPTIONS

MONTHLY
Payment due on a monthly basis. Your first payment will be a two month up front charge plus any applicable taxes and shipping fees. After 60 days your credit/debit card will be charged every month for the following amounts plus applicable taxes.

  • Violin/Viola - $16.00
  • Cello - $35.00
  • Bass - $45.00

YEARLY
Our standing discount for upfront annual payment offers twelve months of instrument rental for the price of ten. If you decide to terminate your rental agreement before the 12 months are up, you will be refunded for the remaining months. You will be billed a one time fee below plus applicable taxes.

  • Violin/Viola - $160.00
  • Cello - $350.00
  • Bass - $450.00

*The two free months are applied to the end of the rental period. If you return your rental 10 months into the rental period, or later, there will be no refund. If you return the instrument before 9 months have expired we will refund the applicable amount based on your rental start month. Rentals are month by month and are refunded as such, if you return in the middle of the month you will not be refunded a portion of your monthly payment.
